Commercial growth in areas like Beulah, Ensley and Ferry Pass has seen an uptick in recent years.
Popular franchises like Aldi, Panera Bread and Jeremiah’s recently built new businesses on Nine Mile, while chains like Cook Out prepare to make their Pensacola debut.
Here’s a list of projects that were approved by the county to build on, or near, Nine Mile Road that you may have noticed.

Cook Out − 1735 E. Nine Mile Road
Pensacola’s first Cook Out restaurant, a fast-food franchise based in North Carolina, is coming to East Nine Mile Road soon, and fans can expect them to be dishing out burgers, shakes and barbecue to the Pensacola community soon as developers are reaching the end of construction.
The future restaurant will open at 1735 E. Nine Mile Road inside University Town Center, which is the former home of a Regions Bank and is located across the street from Sonic Drive-In.

Krispy Kreme and Burger King are located on the other side of Nine Mile Road from the incoming restaurant.
Waffle House − 6034 W. Nine Mile Road
Beulah is getting a new Waffle House location after Escambia County officials approved plans for a brand-new restaurant at the end of March.
Since this project was only approved a couple of weeks ago, you’ll see construction efforts ramp up soon.
The incoming Waffle House will open at 6034 W. Nine Mile Road next to an existing Anytime Storage facility.
Wawa − 8530 N. Davis Highway
Wawa, the gas-and-convenience chain based in Pennsylvania, will have a store in the Ferry Pass area soon after making their local debut in northwest Pensacola at the end of last year. While this store won’t be on Nine Mile Road, it’s a short drive around the corner from the major road.
You’ve likely noticed the incoming Wawa if you’ve driven past HCA Florida West Hospital recently, as construction is underway across the street from the hospital.

Once construction concludes, you’ll be able to access the new Wawa using either East Johnson Avenue or North Davis Highway. Its address will be 8530 N. Davis Highway upon completion.
Nine Mile Retail Center − 640 E. Nine Mile Road
Construction is underway for a new shopping-and-dining hub called Nine Mile Retail Center that’ll be located near the John R. Jones Athletic Complex on East Nine Mile Road.
Developers are turning a 4.18-acre site at 640 E. Nine Mile Road into an 11,924-square-foot retail center and a restaurant with 6,051 square feet after county officials approved their development proposal in December.
The Nine Mile Retail Center, bringing leasable commercial spaces and a restaurant, is under construction off of Nine Mile Road next to a Cefco gas station.
The unnamed restaurant is expected to finish construction in about eight months, while the retail center is expected to open slightly earlier.
Nine Mile Plaza − 1310 W. Nine Mile Road
Escambia County officials approved a project called 9 Mile Plaza in January that’s in the process of building a 10,400-square-foot building with six different leasable spaces for businesses.
The strip mall will be developed at 1310 W. Nine Mile Road, making it neighbors with an existing strip mall featuring the Little Prodigies Music and Arts Center among other businesses.
